Mixing Hobby Radio and life in Wichita Falls, Texas. I post something on that theme on most days. I can't guarantee it will be something you want to read, but I guarantee you'll get your money's worth!

................................................................................................

05-16-2025 - At 5:50 PM, the CB Radio heterodynes are starting to sing on Channel 19. It's music to my ears! I almost forget, it's time to check in on Channel 23 to see if the Local Group is on the air. Yes, they're on the air!

05-16-2025 - It was the late-1970s, and a WFPD officer was assigned a funeral escort. This was back in the day when they did such a thing. This particular officer was assigned this task so often (maybe he was volunteering) that he carried a small CB Radio. One day, a trucker was not doing what the officer thought he should be doing, so he gave that driver some colorful instructions. The problem was that he had grabbed the police radio mic by mistake and entertained the whole shift and everyone in town listening on a scanner radio.

05-16-2025 - From the U.S. Federal Communications Commission - FCC ENFORCEMENT BUREAU ISSUES NOTICE OF ILLEGAL PIRATE RADIO BROADCASTING (NIPRB) TO 829 ADEE AVE H D F AND MIDAS PROPERTY MANAGEMENT . The FCC Enforcement Bureau issued a Notice of Illegal Pirate Radio Broadcasting (NIPRB) for allowing an unlicensed radio broadcast station to operate on frequency 102.1 MHz from their property in the Bronx, New York. . Adopted: 2025-05-16 by NIPRB. EB.

05-16-2025 - At 1:15 PM, another oversized load passes through Wichita Falls, with operations conducted on CB Radio Channel 19.

05-16-2025 - Over the past few days, I've heard a new entity on 151.940 MHz, which is assigned to the Multi-Use Radio Service. As a "northside" resident, the only entity I've heard on this frequency is the WFISD. Now, I'm hearing what sounds like a business. Is there something new in the area, or are they just now using MURS frequencies? Could it be the semi-new Luxury RV Park? The Warren CAT Distribution Center? Further investigation and monitoring is required.

05-16-2025 - I attended the Altus Area Amateur Radio Association hamfest this past March. While purchasing tickets at the door, a man and his wife walked past the ticket table. He was stopped by the Ticketmaster and informed that there was a $5 cover charge to enter. The man looked as if Ticketmaster called him and his wife a bad name. He took her by the arm, and out they went. Did it not occur to him that the radio club had to pay to use the building?

05-16-2025 - I was talking to a Ham Radio operator, while he was mobile in Wichita Falls, when he suddenly started stuttering. I knew right away he was driving on 10th Street between Scott and Indiana. This section of road is an abomination of a travesty!

05-16-2025 - I miss the 1980s and 90s when you could walk into small businesses and see/hear the scanner radio behind the counter, usually tuned to 460.350 MHz, the main WFPD frequency. I won't mention that I also miss being 30-40 years younger!

05-16-2025 - At 9:30 AM, I'm trolling for Parks on the Air® stations on the 20-meter Amateur (ham) Radio band. The band, however, is still mostly asleep in North Texas. I'll check back later.

05-16-2025 - Locally, the Amateur (ham) Radio 147.140 MHz repeater and 146.520 MHz simplex have been active this morning. The CB Radio 27 MHz band is also quite active. I got up a little late to enjoy the school bus activity at 152.360 MHz. That's a tragedy because school will soon be out for the summer.

05-16-2025 - 7:15 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 10,343 Megawatts.

05-16-2025 - 7:15 - Good Morning! It's Friday! The North Central Texas Simplex Net happens tonight at 8:00 PM on 146.580 MHz. This net is usually based in Weatherford, so you'll need a good outside antenna to listen. I'll be checking 20 meters later for a Parks on the Air® station or two to work. Band conditions were a little puny yesterday. Local trucking chatter is in good supply on CB Radio Channel 19 this morning. Our usual VHF-UHF scanner radio frequencies are alive. That leaves my Folgers Black Silk coffee, and it's ready!

05-15-2025 - At 9:15 PM, the Rangers beat the Astros 1-0, and the CB Radio band is on fire with lots of juicy DX signals. But it's almost bedtime, so I won't get too involved in radioing. I'll pick it up again in the morning. Maybe I need a bedside Ham/CB Radio setup along with my scanner radio.
