05-14-2025 - I've checked the 20-meter band for Parks on the Air® stations to work, but the band is weak each time. I only work 20 meter CW at this time in my life. There's no reason I can't switch to other bands, but I just decided that 20 meters is all I need. So, I'll turn on the CB Radio and see what the truckers are up to on Channel 19. And, having turned on the CB Radio, I find that the band is screaming from one end to the other!

05-14-2025 - 12:35 PM - A man and woman passing through town are discussing the need for fuel on the Amateur (ham) Radio simplex frequency, 146.520 MHz. I assume they're in separate vehicles, but that's not assured. I remember being in a car with a co-worker in a previous occupation of mine, passing the microphone back and forth and talking like we were nowhere near each other. Sometimes, you feel like a nut!
05-14-2025 - 8:38 AM - I contacted a station in Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park (US-0732) in Ohio on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program. This contact brings my POTA hunter count to 528.

05-14-2025 - A Dallas area General Mobile Radio Service repeater is coming in strong this morning. While we have a handful of GMRS operators in Wichita Falls, I don't think we have any repeaters in operation. Could I be wrong?
05-14-2025 - From my corrections consultant - A Correctional Officer working outside 7 & 8 chow halls turned around to see an offender, who had just left the Infirmary, standing at the gate. The officer said, "You should have said something." The offender responds with, "I'm serving three life sentences. I'm in no hurry." Tune in to the Allred Unit at 153.815 MHz on your scanner radio.05-14-2025 - There must be a "band opening" this morning because I hear a weak 146.940 MHz repeater from somewhere. I haven't heard a call sign. I have heard several stations saying, "Back to net." A net? It's 6:35 AM, and someone is running a net? Not only is someone running a net, but people are participating! Get back to bed, people! Or, get to work!
05-14-2025 - From my law enforcement consultant - The Wheel Burglars & Doo Doo Bombers. It was the 1980s and someone was tossing car wheels through business windows and helping themselves to the goodies inside. Radio Shack in Parker Square had been hit. They put one of their display video cameras to use and caught the burglars in the act. In the early 1990s, at a religious organization near Midwestern State University, someone had defecated on the office sofa, twice. A hidden camera caught the third act of the steaming hot donation being made. The bomber was jailed.
05-14-2025 - Wichita Falls is a perfect city for the Multi-Use Radio Service because the city's widest dimension is only about 12 miles. Base stations anywhere in town, with a decent outside antenna, will be able to communicate with each other and most mobile units.
05-14-2025 - Wichita Falls ISD: The last school day is May 21. This means one thing to local hobby radio enthusiasts: we'll lose an entertaining scanner radio target—school buses on 152.360 MHz. School handheld radios on 151.940 MHz will also go silent. Enjoy while you can!

05-14-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Wednesday. I heard one peep on CB Radio Channel 19 already, the Allred Unit is alive at 153.815 MHz, and others will soon make their presence known. If you're headed to Starbucks at Kemp & Kell, don't! Drive across the street to Frank & Joe's Coffee in Parker Square. You can go to Starbucks tomorrow. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
05-13-2025 - It's 7:00 PM, and I've got all the radios on: CB, Ham, and scanner. Plus, the Texas Rangers are starting Game 2 against the Colorado Rockies. My Folgers Black Silk coffee with a little Amaretto is ready!
